Human Growth Hormone ( HGH) Injection Instructions

Before the INJECTION

1. Somatatropin (HGH) must be injected. Accordingly, we have found a 1 cc Insulin syringe U 100 the syringe of choice. Additionally, you must sterilize the area. This is done with an alcohol swab.
2. Reconstituted Somatatropin (HGH) must be refrigerated at all times. Reconstitute and Use one vial at a time. Take the vial out of the refrigerator and let it stand for no longer than 2 to 3 minutes. From this vial, you will be able to draw your dosage. This vial should not be refrozen, but should be kept refrigerated and used within approximately 14 days.
3. Select a clean, dry work area.
4. Gather your supplies:
      • Medication
      • Sterile disposable needles and syringes
      • Alcohol pads or cotton balls and bottle of rubbing alcohol
      • Puncture–proof disposal container
   
   *HINT The container can be a coffee can or leak-proof, closable milk jug. Find out the proper way to dispose of biological waste in your area.
   
   Wash your hands well before preparing your medication.

PREPARING THE INJECTION

Take the vial, clean the rubber stopper with an alcohol swab. Remove the caps from the syringe. You will see the plunger. Then remove the orange cap, making sure to retain the cap since you will need to cap the needle before you dispose of the needle and syringe. Now the needle is exposed. Make sure the plunger of the syringe is completely pushed down. This is necessary in order to make sure you have no air in the syringe. With the plunger pushed in completely all the air will be out of the syringe. Additionally, this will create the vacuum needed to draw the medication as well as allow you to accurately measure the medication amount as you draw the medication into the syringe.

Take the vial in hand and hold upside down. With the other hand, push the needle through the rubber stopper into the lower part of the bottle. Then pull the plunger. The medication will be drawn into the syringe. The usual dose is approximately ½ ml. (it will read 50 on the syringe). After drawing the medication into the syringe, recap and needle with the orange cap and set aside. You will now prepare the area for injection.

If you still have difficulty understanding how to draw a syringe, a trained member of the medical staff will instruct you on preparing your particular dose of medication. Please note that the first time is the hardest. Once you have done it, it will be simple the next time.

THE INJECTION

Select your injection site. This must be an area that has a layer of fat between the skin and the muscle. This is called subcutaneous. The following parts of your body have subcutaneous layers:

• top of thighs
• buttocks
• abdomen, except the navel or waistline

1. If you are very thin do not use the abdomen as an injection site.
2. Do not use the same site for injections each time.
3. Rotate your injection sites in a regular pattern. You should be at least 1 ½ inches away from the last injection site. You may want to jot down on your calendar where you gave you last shot. This will help prevent giving the shot in the same place too soon.
4. Select a site and cleanse the area (about 2 inches) with a fresh alcohol pad, or cotton ball soaked in alcohol.
5. Wait for the site to dry.
6. Remove the needle cap.
7. Pinch a 2–inch fold of skin between your thumb and index finger.
8. Hold the syringe the way you would a pencil or dart. Insert the needle at a 45 to 90 degree angle to the pinched–up skin. The needle should be completely covered by skin. If you do this quickly, you will feel very little discomfort.
9. Hold the syringe with one hand; slowly push the plunger to inject the medication. Press the plunger all the way down.
10. Remove the needle from the skin and gently hold an alcohol pad on the injection site. Do not rub.
11. Place the orange cap over the needle and immediately put the syringe and needle into the disposal container.
